Dear Kamal Hassan,

To
Dear Kamal Hassan ,

You would have read umpteen reviews for your latest movie Vishwaroopam, Iam not even sure that, you would eye ball this piece, but then I thought let me pen the train of thoughts which were ignited by the script.

It was nice to see a refreshing movie after a long time, well thought, well researched, well written and well adapted to the screen. The amount of time you would have spent researching on this script is really commendable and finer details of every prop and every character has been addressed.

The dialogues were deep and astounding;they created a long lasting impact. Especially the following one’s created crusts inside the audience

1)
Omar: Why is your name Kashmiri?
Kashmiri: Father left us , To save my mother i needed to add Kashmir...

Omar..o I understand...
Kashmiri.. No you wouldn’t have understood

A true Indian would understand the above dialogue well.

2)

Omar : why should we shed tears? ( "Muslims" shed tears)
Kashmiri: “We are Jihadis”( Replacing “Religion” to Jihadis) we are not meant to shed tears but to shed blood. .You have answered your question in your question itself, if there was a fight there would be some deaths too.

The above dialogue clearly explains the difference between the Jihadi mindset and true muslim.

3)
FBI officer 1: what is he doing? ( When visam prays)
FBI officer 2: He is praying for your good?
FBI officer 1: Like God almighty…
FBI officer 2: Yes , exactly but this is the Arabic version ….

The cinematography is exemplary, the BGM score is good but it may have been better and surely you will look in to this aspect in the forthcoming films. Kudos to the make-up and the costume team, they have done a tremendous job and for sure, they must have lived in the characters when they were thinking of the costumes.

Every actor has done justice to their roles. Nasser is again a shining example of seasoned actor and the acting talent in India. He is been a great ambassodor of Tamil cinema and he has bought his character alive literally. Omar Bhai and the rest of the militant characters were well thought and vividly portrayed on screen.

The sets/Locations were superlative and captivating. The script protrayed the reality to the world what exactly happens in a world overtaken by Jihadi Mindset and how young innocent Muslims are brain washed by the Jihadist and im sure the movie conveyed a soothing message that regardless of the Religion we are all Indians and we would strive it to make it better.

The talent you posses are superlative and I really hope your future projects are not stalled by petty mindsets and illogical reasoning by people who just want to stir a controversy just for the sake of it. There were no anti –religious views at all and even after encountering the impacts of Afsal Guru , Ajmal Kasab , Hafeez syed , we still look at our neighbouring Muslims as our friends and part of our families.Hopefully the people who created the stir and the controversy would understand thisand not negate your efforts on bringing another great work on celluloid.

Our answer to movies like Hurt Locker, Behind Enemy lines and saving Private Ryan. Surely, the next part would do even more justice to your talent and hopefully it will be billed as one of all time greatest movies.

The request is to you to research our well famed Tamil History and if possible bring out a Magnus opus from the Chola/Pandya/Pallava Period, we would be obliged and the world would know how advanced and fabled we were through you.

Regards,
Rj

Bow down!

“Another one bites the dust” , that’s how to describe the whole episode of Vishwaroopam a Tamil film which was supposed to be a magnus opus for one of India’s finest actor . Alas , The country has become intolerant to tolerance and tolerant to intolerance, the freedom of art/speech has been severly compromised and its very amusing that all the politicians also took part in the drama rather ensuring that the art is fee flowing , the politicos have ensured that art has got stifled and now every artist will run pillar to post to pacify or to make each and every community happy before delivering it to public.

The Central board for film certification (CBFC) has been made a mockery and even a Honourable Judge has been snubbed by the State .The state must have acted magnanimous and should have ensured that a fine artist should have been protected and regardless of the people involved it must clearly sent out a signal we are free and a tolerant society and society has a whole will not bend to the whimsical of people who say they represent a certain section of society. When the Foreign Invaders stifled our freedom we made hue and cry and we ensured we got freedom but unfortunately now a certain section of societies ensures the rest are held at a ransom just because they have got offended. Taking offense happens only when we feel that we are part of a group or section which has done some dastardly acts! Appalled by the way the film fraternity stood by the artist , they should have done more , stood by him and should have egged him to release the film without any compromises and should have ensured that protesting section should have been made to understand we are all one and this just an form of expression and this wont impact the existing relationships in anyway.

Are we really living in a free Country if you really think so, just read this following dialogue from the movie “The American President”

“America isn’t easy. America is advanced citizenship. You Gotta want it bad, ‘cause it’s gonna put up a fight. It’s gonna say “You want free speech? Let’s see you acknowledge a man whose words makes your blood boil, you want to claim this land as the land of the free? Then the symbol of your country can’t just be a flag; the symbol also has to be one of its citizens exercising his right to burn that flag in protest. Show me that, defend that, and celebrate that in your classroom. Then you can stand up and sing about the land of the free”

The moment the above lines come true, when the country or the society is not held at ransom for some trivail issues by a group which claims to represents larger interest, when the freedom of art is not stifled in the namesake for community..then we may claim to live in free society
